Even 22 members might be too much
If the conference sticks with 2 divisions, then that would be 11 per division. The ACC might be able to go to a 9 divisional game conference schedule (assuming the math works). However, I don't see the conference being able to go to a 10 divisional game conference schedule, which means teams won't be able to play at least 1 team in their division every year.
If the ACC plans to go with 4 divisions, then the number will need to be 16, 20, or 24. I don't see the schools agreeing to allow the divisions to have a different number of teams especially if they end up in a division with more teams. Regardless of however many divisions the ACC wants to have, then it will need to have the same number of teams in each division. If nothing else it will make scheduling a lot easier to figure out.
